A Lunch Meeting with a local geoscientist giving a talk on the latest advancements in an active play? An AAPG distinguished lecturer highlighting state-of-the-art methodologies in prospecting at a Dinner Meeting? Or a two day short course on seismic attributes taught by a local professor?
You choose - the OCGS has it all and more.

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear OCGS Members,

The board has been monitoring the COVID-19 situation and subsequent industry financial crisis.  As many of you know, we canceled our events for March and April out of an abundance of caution for our members.  However, we recognize by canceling these events, we are not fulfilling our mission to provide quality continuing education as well as networking events to you.  Under the current financial crisis in our industry, these education and networking events are arguably more important than ever.  In the April Board Meeting, we decided on a number of measures to help meet the needs of our members.

First and foremost, we decided to offer half-priced memberships to those who have been impacted during this recent crisis.  If you did not renew your membership in 2020 or are considering becoming a new member, and you are currently out of work, furloughed, or laid off, we are offering 2020 society memberships for $50.  Please email Michelle Hone at [email protected] for more information.

Second, we are going to resume our luncheon series for the month of May by offering a virtual luncheon.  On May 20th at 12:00 P.M, Craig Barrie from GeoMark will be giving a talk entitled, “Best Practices For Understanding Fluid Contributions in Unconventional Resource Plays”.  This luncheon is free and open to all members and non-members.  Based on the feedback and attendance of the May luncheon, we will evaluate the possibility of a June virtual luncheon.

We have rescheduled the May two day carbonates course with Rick Sarg for November 11th and 12th.  Please be on the lookout for more information.  For those who were hoping to attend the George Asquith log analysis course in March or the Yucel Akkutlu course on applied reservoir engineering in April, we will look to offer those courses in 2021.  I am sorry, we are not able to get these rescheduled in 2020.

Finally, we have made some adjustments to our social events.  The Sporting Clay Tournament that was scheduled to be held on April 24th was rescheduled to June 19th.  The board is actively monitoring the COVID-19 situation and will reschedule if needed.  The Golf Tournament originally scheduled for June 8th has been delayed until the fall.  We have not finalized the date of the tournament, but will communicate when we get it rescheduled.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Michelle Hone or myself.

Regards,

Patrick Kamann

The OCGS has six active committees (Education, Finance, Governance, Membership, Publications and Social) which could really benefit from your involvement.  For more information on the responsibilities and activities of each committee or if you are interested in joining, please contact Michelle Hone.  Committee participation is an excellent vehicle for networking and building relationships which could not be of greater importance in today's industry environment.
