Abstract:

Many petroleum companies provide intensive 3-5 day petrophysical and log interpretation courses to train their geologists and engineers.  They often assume that this brief training provides the necessary skills to evaluate logs, create cross-sections and generate predictive maps.   Experience has shown that these assumptions are often erroneous, resulting in faulty interpretations and flawed predictive mapping.

Employing practical log evaluation techniques, and becoming aware of potential pitfalls, can improve the reliability and predictive power of interpretations.  The results can have enormous financial impacts upon companies.
